We’ve spotted a Red Kite swooping over Highgate Barn House and Cottages a few times over the past couple of weeks and really hope he stays around for the summer!
Red Kites are impressive red chestnut birds of prey which have striking white patches under their wings and a pale grey head. They are deceivingly light, considering they have a wide wingspan of nearly two metres. This means they can stay in the air for many hours with hardly a beat of their wings – and hence why they’re renowned for their graceful swooping motion.
Although Red Kites are fairly rare, a couple have been regular visitors to the Highgate Valley over the past few years. Come and see for yourself! We’ve still got some availability in our two self-catering cottages over the summer (Old Stable 4 bedroom property sleeping 8 + Milk Stand 3 bedroom sleeping 6/7), plus limited mid-week dates in the Barn House (sleeping 20). We’re also offering SPECIAL DISCOUNT RATES OF 10% OFF COTTAGE PRICES DURING JUNE! Get away from it all in our comfortable, relaxing luxury barn conversion cottages where you’ll be close to nature in peaceful surroundings. For further information and availability please contact us at email@example.com / 01686 610554.
If you’d like to see Red Kites close up, we’re only about 40 minutes away from the Red Kite Feeding Centre at Gigrin Farm in Rhayader. Hundreds of Red Kites feed there every day in a spectacular setting overlooking the Wye and Elan Valleys. There you’ll find general Hides, specialist Photographic Hides, a cafe, a picnic site, a gift shop and a farm trail.
